Good Friday?

I’m not quite sure what is good about the day that Jesus went to the cross. I’ve done the Google thing and read all of the explanations regarding the title, but none of them help me a whole lot. I find it interesting how man has sort of messed up some of God’s work by using really bad titles and words.

I recently started watching the part of The Passion of the Christ movie where Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night before his crucifixion. I watched until He was being marched to Golgotha. I had to turn it off. I was so emotional and so upset that I could not watch anymore (I have never watched the movie for this very reason). I sat there in silence and reflected on the power of what I had just watched and how Jesus could do that for me. I have been through the Easter season many times, but for some reason this year it is hitting me harder than ever before. I am humbled beyond words that God loved me and you so much that He would suffer in this way. He had a choice! Many will say that He didn’t, but I beg to differ. He did not have to do what He did, but He did it anyway! Amazing, humbling, shocking, baffling, mind boggling, dumbfounding, flabbergasting, stupefying…. Words don’t do justice for the emotions I feel.

I pray that on this Friday that represents the day Christ died for you and me, you will pause and try and take in what He actually did for us. That is the only good I can find in Good Friday.
